Tuesday brought a changing of the guard in the Minnesota immigration crackdown of the Trump administration as Tom Homan arrives to take the lead.

Homan replaces Border Patrol commander at large Gregory Bovino, who was moved out of Minnesota.

Gov. Tim Walz has had an initial meeting with Homan, the new lead official for the Trump administration's Minnesota immigration operation.

The governor's office said in a written statement that Walz stressed a need for a change in course that includes "impartial investigations into the Minneapolis shootings involving federal agents, a swift, significant reduction in the number of federal forces in Minnesota, and an end to the campaign of retribution against Minnesota."

Walz's office said the two met in person Tuesday morning in the governor's office at the state Capitol and planned to have additional meetings.
