Hopkins family spent weekend in Texas ICE detention facility now ‘recovering’ at home

The attorney for a Hopkins family detained by ICE last week said they are home after being flown out of the state in violation of a court order.
The Chulca Velasco family was detained by ICE agents Jan. 22. Family attorney Brian Clark said despite a judge's order, the family was flown to the detention center in Dilley, Texas sometime on Jan. 23.
Clark said the family arrived at the Whipple Building early Monday morning at 1 a.m.
“They are together and recovering from this traumatizing experience at their Hopkins home,” he said.
Clark said the family are documented asylum seekers from Ecuador, who are also applying for U visas. The family includes two children ages 7 and 12. Maria Velasco Hurtado is expecting the family’s third child.
