Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said Tuesday that he met with “border czar” Tom Homan. He called it a “productive conversation” in which he asked for the federal immigration enforcement operation to come to an end as soon as possible.
“I shared with Mr. Homan the serious negative impacts this operation has had on Minneapolis and surrounding communities, as well as the strain it has placed on our local police officers. I also made it clear that Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws, and that we will remain focused on keeping our neighbors and streets safe,” Frey said.
He said Minneapolis leaders will continue to communicate with Homan and his team.
Gov. Tim Walz also met with Homan Tuesday. His office said the two met in person Tuesday morning in the governor's office at the state Capitol and planned to have additional meetings.
