Minnesota alpine skier Paula Moltzan and her U.S. teammate Jacqueline Wiles claimed bronze in the new team combined event at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Tuesday.
With Wiles skiing the downhill half of the event and Moltzan the slalom, they finished ahead of teammates Breezy Johnson and Mikaela Shiffrin by just six hundredths of a second. Johnson had posted the fastest overall time in the downhill, but Shiffrin finished just 15th in the slalom.
Wiles and Moltzan each finished fourth in their respective parts of the competition.
The team combined consists of one racer competing in a downhill run and another in a slalom run, with the times from the two added together to determine the results.
Moltzan is a slalom and giant slalom specialist from Prior Lake. She started skiing at Buck Hill, where Olympic legend Lindsey Vonn learned to ski as well.
In 2015 she became the first U.S. woman to take home a gold in slalom at the junior world championships. She secured a bronze medal in the giant slalom in the 2025 World Championships in Austria.
Ariane Raedler and Katharina Huber of Austria won gold, and Kira Weidle-Winkelmann and Emma Aicher of Germany earned silver. Just 31 hundredths of a second separated first and fourth place.
