The Minnesota Golden Gophers women’s basketball team is heading to the NCAA tournament for the first time in nearly a decade — and they’ll start the tourney at home.
The Gophers found out Saturday that they’re among the top 16 seeds for the tournament. That means they’ll host first- and second-round games at Williams Arena.
On Sunday, they found out who they’ll play. The fourth-seeded Gophers will take on No. 13 Green Bay on Friday, March 20. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
No. 5 Ole Miss will take on No. 12 Gonzaga in the other first-round game in Minneapolis, at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The winners of those two games will play a second-round game at Williams Arena on Sunday, March 22.
Minnesota enters the tournament with a 22-8 record — including a 13-3 record at Williams Arena.
The Gophers are in the NCAA tourney for the first time since 2018. They’re hosting a tournament game for the first time since 2005.
