Minnesota is making a bid to host the 2028 NFL Draft.
Minnesota Sports and Events is teaming up with U.S. Bank Stadium and the Minnesota Vikings in an effort to bring the multi-day sports spectacle to Minneapolis.
Organizers say past NFL drafts have drawn more than a half-million fans to host cities, in addition to giving those communities exposure to millions more people watching on TV or online.
“Hosting the NFL Draft would be a defining moment for Minnesota — not just as a world-class event, but as a global showcase of who we are. We’ve proven we can deliver on the biggest stages, and this bid reflects both our ambition and our confidence in what this region can offer,” Wendy Blackshaw, president and CEO of Minnesota Sports and Events, said in a statement.

“This is an excellent opportunity to showcase our city, of course support the Vikings, and make sure that the whole world gets to see this exceptional place that we get to call home. Let’s go get this bid,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a video announcing the bid on Wednesday morning.
At least one other city — Buffalo, N.Y. — has expressed interest in hosting the 2028 NFL Draft. The winning bid is likely to be announced sometime in May.
There is precedent for holding the draft in the Midwest. Green Bay hosted the event last year.
If Minneapolis is awarded the 2028 NFL Draft, it would take place just over a decade after the city hosted the Super Bowl in 2018.
