Fire heavily damages Haskell’s, longtime restaurant in Excelsior

A fire early Wednesday morning damaged a longtime, landmark restaurant near Lake Minnetonka.
The fire was reported at about 1:30 a.m. at Haskell’s Port of Excelsior — located just a block from the lake in downtown Excelsior.
KARE 11 reported that the first fire crews on the scene found flames showing from the building, which also houses a Haskell’s wine and liquor store. Most of the damage was to the part of the building housing the restaurant and bar.
A photo from the fire scene — posted to Haskell’s Facebook page on Wednesday — showed part of the restaurant’s roof had collapsed, with major damage to the front of the building.
“We are incredibly relieved to share that everyone is safe. We are currently assessing the situation and will be closed for the foreseeable future,” the restaurant posted on its Facebook page Wednesday morning. “Thank you for your support and patience while we navigate this.”
In an update later Wednesday morning, Haskell’s said the adjacent liquor store would also be closed while damage is assessed.
Restaurant staff thanked the firefighters and other emergency crews who responded to the scene.
