Shakopee police say a suspect is in custody after a man attending a prayer service was found fatally shot at Canterbury Park on Wednesday morning.
Police identified the victim as 26-year-old Khalid Ibrahim Abdi.
“Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family, friends, and all of those affected by this incident,” Shakopee police said in a Facebook update on Thursday morning announcing the arrest and identifying the victim.
Charges are pending.
Police said Abdi had been attending a prayer service on Wednesday morning at the Expo building on the grounds of Canterbury Park.
Police received a call for a weapons complaint and found Abdi with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transferred to HCMC, but police announced Wednesday afternoon that Abdi had died and they were investigating the case as a homicide.
Authorities arrested the suspect around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Police did not release further details on the circumstances of the shooting.
