Police search for suspect after officers fired on in north Minneapolis

Authorities continue to search for a suspect who allegedly fired a gun at police officers in north Minneapolis on Monday afternoon.
Police said the gunfire happened shortly after 3 p.m. on the 3500 block of North Oliver Avenue, a block east of Penn Avenue.
“Officers reported that gunshots were fired in their direction from a nearby vehicle while patrolling” in the area, Minneapolis police said in a news release. “Neither the targeted officers nor their vehicle were hit by gunfire. Officers did not discharge their weapons and return fire.”
The incident prompted a significant law enforcement response to search for the suspect. Police issued a shelter-in-place advisory for the area while that search was underway.
The advisory was lifted around 6 p.m. Monday, but Minneapolis police have not announced any arrests in connection with the gunfire.
“We ask that the public remain vigilant, but at this time, there is no reason to believe there is an ongoing safety risk to our residents,” police said in a news release Monday night.
