‘Unhealthy’ air quality expected in eastern Minnesota through Monday afternoon due to wildfire smoke

Nine people were shot early Sunday morning outside a nightclub in Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood. 

Minneapolis police say gunfire erupted just after midnight outside the Reign Event Center. 

Officers found four people in their 20s shot outside the club, one with potentially life-threatening injuries. They were all taken to Hennepin Healthcare. 

An 18-year-old with a gunshot wound later walked into Hennepin Healthcare.  

Four more people in their 20s with gunshot wounds arrived at Abbot Northwestern Hospital, including a man with potentially life-threatening injuries. That man was transported to Hennepin Healthcare 

Interim Minneapolis Police Chief Bill Peterson said at a Sunday afternoon news conference the two mean with potentially life-threatening injuries are expected to survive. 

Peterson, alongside Community Safety Commissioner Todd Barnette, urged anyone with information on the shooting to come forward.  

“It takes strong partnerships throughout the criminal justice system, continued investment in more police officers and the use of proven technology that helps law enforcement officers respond quickly, investigate effectively and prevents future crimes,” Barnette said. “It also takes community.”  

Peterson said off-duty officers were stationed near Reign and were the first to arrive , but investigators still need information to identify a suspect.  

“I think anytime there's you're in an entertainment district where lots of people are around, there's going to be tons of cameras everywhere,” said Peterson. 

Police said forensic scientists had processed the area around Reign and collected evidence. They had not made any arrests as of Sunday evening.
