St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her is facing an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.
The Star Tribune first reported Tuesday that police Chief Axel Henry notified the city in April he had filed a formal complaint. The city hired a law firm to investigate.
Henry, through his attorney Chris Madel, notified St. Paul’s city attorney in April that he was making the complaint. In that letter, shared with MPR News by news partners KARE 11, Madel said Her had sent sexually suggestive texts to city employees.
“The Mayor’s conduct has extended beyond isolated incidents and has included sexual harassment of subordinate City employees, including members of the Saint Paul Police Department,” Madel wrote.
The mayor’s spokesperson, Matt Wagenius, said the city will not comment on an active investigation.
“The mayor has deep respect for city employees and regrets any unintended impact her actions may have had,” Wagenius said in a statement.
Her said in a statement: “I recognize that some of my attempts at humor fell short of the standard I expect of myself. We have fully cooperated with the independent investigation since it began in April and will continue to do so. I respect the investigative process and believe it is important to allow it to reach its conclusion.”
