Authorities continue to investigate after a person died in Hopkins on Sunday when a utility pole fell onto a vehicle.
It happened along Blake Road North, between Highway 7 and Excelsior Boulevard.
Hopkins police and fire officials said the pole fell onto a vehicle, which then caught fire. One person inside the vehicle died. Their name has not been released.
As of midday Monday there was no word on what caused the utility pole to fall.
In a statement, Xcel Energy said the pole was inspected recently and “was in compliance with all required safety standards. We are working with authorities and conducting our own investigation into the matter.”
Crews were still working Monday morning to restore power to some customers in the area.
