Police in Brooklyn Center say one girl died and another was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when their minibike collided with a vehicle at an intersection.

It happened at 63rd Avenue North and Brooklyn Drive near Centennial Park. Police say the girls — both under the age of 10 — were on a minibike traveling east when they were hit by a vehicle traveling south.

One of the girls died at a hospital. The other was reported to be in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
