Newly updated data show that more than 2,300 non-citizens arrested in Minnesota during Operation Metro Surge were deported or left the country.
That's according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement numbers obtained by the Deportation Data Project and analyzed by MPR News and APM Reports.
The analysis found that 2,102 people who were detained were later deported, and another 282 left the country, but there wasn’t detention data listed for them.
In April, the project reported around 1,700 people detained by ICE had been deported during the surge. However, at the time, there were still people with active cases in immigration court.
The data include documentation of more than 3,700 arrests in the state during the immigration enforcement surge. A majority of those arrested had no criminal record.
