A pair of semitrailer crashes tangled traffic along Interstate 94 in downtown St. Paul overnight and through the early part of the Wednesday morning commute.
The two crashes happened less than four hours apart in nearly the same spot, the eastbound lanes at the Wabasha Street bridge. But the Minnesota State Patrol said they were not related.
The first crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. when a semi driven by a 41-year-old man from Blaine lost control and jackknifed. The driver was not injured.
The second crash happened just before 4 a.m. when a semi driven by a 38-year-old man from Anoka lost control, jackknifed and rolled onto its side, blocking part of the freeway. The driver was not injured, and he received a citation for careless driving.
The eastbound lanes of I-94 were fully reopened ahead of the main morning traffic rush.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
