On Sunday, President Trump told four Democratic congresswomen in a tweet to “go back” where they came from. The president’s phraseology reflects a fear of the other that experts say has been woven into this country from the beginning. For Americans of color, the words are familiar – and cutting.

MPR News host Kerri Miller was joined by Jose Santos, an associate professor in the social science department at Metropolitan State University, to talk unpack the phrase “go back.”
