Warm start to meteorological summer
Scattered showers and t-storms are possible
Many meteorologists refer to our 3 warmest months (which are June, July and August) as summer. Meteorological summer begins on Monday. In case you’re wondering, astronomical summer starts on June 20. It’ll feel like summer this week.
Temperature trends
Many areas will see highs in the 80s Monday afternoon, and parts of southwestern Minnesota may top 90 degrees:
Highs in the upper 80s are forecast for most of the Twin Cities metro area on Monday. Twin Cities highs are projected to be near 90 on Tuesday, followed by upper 80s Wednesday and mid 80s Thursday and Friday.

Summery warmth may continue next weekend into the start of the following week. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and Wisconsin from June 6 through June 10:
Thunderstorm chances
Scattered showers and thunderstorms may move into parts of west-central and northwestern Minnesota late Sunday night, then spread eastward. Scattered showers and thunderstorm are possible Monday morning in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. A few of those showers and thunderstorms may linger into Monday afternoon in northeastern Minnesota.

Some thunderstorms could develop Tuesday afternoon in central and southern Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin, then linger into Tuesday evening. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows this potential rain pattern Tuesday afternoon and evening:
The NWS Storm Prediction Center shows a slight risk of severe weather (shaded yellow) Tuesday and Tuesday evening across southern Minnesota and into parts of Wisconsin:
Slight risk means that scattered severe thunderstorms are possible. That severe weather outlook will be updated by the SPC several times between now and Tuesday.
