Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Our Saturday weather was much more comfortable than our weather over the previous 9 days.

Twin Cities metro area temps dropped into the 60s early Saturday morning….our first Twin Cities low temp in the 60s since June 2:

The Saturday afternoon high temp at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 87 degrees. June 2 was the last time that our official Twin Cities high temp was not 90 degrees or warmer. 

Our average high temp is just 78 degrees this time of year.  Saturday temps in the upper 80s felt fairly comfortable, due to dew points in the 40s. There was about half as much water in the air on Saturday, compared to Friday.

Highs return to the 90s in roughly the southern half of Minnesota on Sunday, with mainly 80s to the north and a few 70s near the Canadian border:

Dew points will be in the lower 50s in most spots:

It’ll feel a bit more humid on Sunday, but not muggy.

Sunday will be breezy, with afternoon wind gusts in the 16-24 mph range in many spots:

Forecast gusts are in knots, with 19 knots equal to around 22 mph.

Parts of northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin could see some scattered showers and thunderstorms Sunday and Sunday evening. 

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern for Sunday and Sunday evening:

The NWS Storm Prediction Center shows a marginal risk (shaded dark green on the graphic below) of severe weather in portions of northeastern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin Sunday and Sunday night:

The Storm Prediction Center will update the Sunday severe weather outlook several times in the next 24 hours.

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 80s Monday, then mid 80s Tuesday. We could hit the upper 80s on Wednesday, followed by lower 90s Thursday. It’ll be cooler on Friday, with highs in the lower 80s.

Temperatures next weekend and the following week could average out near normal. The NWS Climate Prediction Center isn’t showing a tendency for above-normal or below-normal temps in Minnesota or Wisconsin from June 20 through June 26:
