The legacy of Jim Denomie and the premiere of MPLSART's 2021 Sketchbook Project

Art can tell the story that sometimes words can't. On Minnesota Now Wednesday, host Cathy Wurzer honors the legacy of renowned visual artist, Jim Denomie. Denomie was a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe and lived much of his life in Minnesota.

He received a number of honors and accolades for his work including the McKnight Distinguished Artist Award in 2019 — one of the most prestigious awards for an artist in Minnesota.

And as the pandemic continues, a new book shows the perspective of local artists during another challenging year. The limited edition MPLSART Sketchbook Project features 70 across the Twin Cities. Blaine Garrett, co-owner of MPLSART joined Wurzer to talk more about it.
