Minnesota clinic joins effort to study and treat long-haul COVID
An ECMO machine, which stands for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, sits in the hallway of a medical ICU unit at St. Mary's Hospital at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., on Dec. 31. Patients severely ill with COVID-19 can be put on ECMO, which oxygenates their blood and makes the work of the heart and lungs easier.
