On Tuesday afternoon Metro Transit leaders will discuss the reopening of a tower at the Lake Street/Midtown Station in south Minneapolis.
The station went through renovations in July and it’s been a focal point of safety concerns in the transit system. A woman was attacked and a man was shot on separate occasions earlier this year.
It’s one of seven sites where Metro Transit hired private security guards as one of its efforts to improve safety and boost ridership, which has slumped since the pandemic.
As Metro Transit’s new general manager, Lesley Kandaras is heading these efforts. Money is flowing to projects meant to expand and speed up public transportation in and around the Twin Cities.
