Just as the busy Fourth of July holiday begins, Minneapolis park workers will go on a week-long strike. The walkout begins Thursday after union negotiations with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board did not result in a contract agreement. 

The board’s last, best and final offer included a more than ten percent wage increase and a $1 market adjustment over three years. 

MPR News Host Cathy Wurzer talked with AJ Lange, business manager for the Laborers International Union of North America Local 363, which represents the park workers, and Lanel Lane, a union member and parkkeeper for MPRB. 

MPRB leadership declined an interview request but said in a statement that their offer was “competitive, fair and equitable.”
