Minnesota has joined a lawsuit against the Trump Administration over FEMA's move in April to end some disaster preparedness funding. The Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program allocated billions of dollars to help state and local governments plan for natural disasters and shore up infrastructure.
In Minnesota, counties used it on hazard mitigation plans. Those are required to be updated every five years in order for counties to be eligible for certain kinds of disaster relief. Attorney General Keith Ellison says 34 counties were in the process of updating their plans when the program ended.
Law enforcement shot and killed a person in St. Louis County on Tuesday after that person allegedly set homes on fire and shot at officers. Dispatchers received reports that a neighbor — armed with a rifle — had set fire to two homes in Normanna Township. According to a statement from the St. Louis County sheriff’s office, the suspect fired a weapon at a Duluth Township police officer. Five sheriff’s deputies then fired their weapons, hitting the suspect. No one else was injured.
