Appeals court rules a lawsuit against a Minneapolis officer in the death of Amir Locke can move forward

An appeals court has ruled a lawsuit against a Minneapolis police officer in the shooting death of Amir Locke can move forward. Locke was shot and killed inside a Minneapolis apartment in 2022 when police executed an unannounced, no-knock warrant. 

Minnesota political leaders are waiting to hear from state Sen. Nicole Mitchell. The Woodbury DFLer was convicted Friday on felony burglary charges after breaking into her stepmother's Detroit Lakes home in 2024. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy says Mitchell had told colleagues she intended to resign if found guilty. 

Minneapolis Democrats endorsed state Sen. Omar Fateh as their preferred candidate for mayor at a party convention Saturday. Fateh, a Democratic Socialist, defeated incumbent Jacob Frey who is seeking a third term for mayor of the state’s largest city. In an online statement, Fateh said he was honored by the endorsement. 

More than 90 Minnesota groups are launching a campaign Monday urging cities to oppose mass deportations.

A man fired shots at the Sherburne County Government Center in Elk River Saturday morning. The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office says it happened at 9:30 a.m. when a person with a long gun fired "several shots into windows between the front doors" of the building. A 51-year-old Elk River man was arrested. No one was injured.
