Former Maple Grove volleyball coach sentenced to 33 years in prison for production of child sex abuse images

A Brooklyn Park man convicted of killing five young women in a high-speed crash two years ago faces sentencing Thursday. 

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has charged a 16-year-old in connection with the shooting death of 11-year-old Amir Atkins. The boy was killed last month at Folwell Park in Minneapolis.

A man died in Minneapolis Tuesday during a traffic stop near 36th Street and North Thomas Avenue. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office says he died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two detectives stopped a car with no license plates and, as they approached the vehicle, they heard a gunshot.

A Minnesota volleyball coach who worked at Maple Grove High School has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for production of child sex abuse images.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says there has been progress over the past decade reducing phosphorus going into Minnesota waters.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says it’s still experiencing delays in processing driver’s licenses after the federal Real ID requirement went into effect. The state’s Driver and Vehicle Services is still working through applications submitted April 17. The Stearns County License Center says residents are seeing processing times of 17 weeks or longer, not including the time it takes to mail the licenses.

Two beaches in Minneapolis are closed due to high bacteria levels. The Bde Maka Ska North Beach closed Tuesday, and the Lake Hiawatha Beach remains closed due to E.coli.
