We've learned the names of the two children who were shot and killed at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday. Ten-year-old Harper Moyski was shot while sitting in a pew for a school Mass. Her family described her as 'bright, joyful and deeply loved.' The other child was 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel. His father Jesse addressed the media, saying his son loved his family and friends, fishing, cooking and sports.
Jesse Merkel thanked the other children and adults in the church who took action when a shooter fired through the windows as they were gathered for Mass. 18 others were injured, including 15 children.
City, state and federal law enforcement agencies continue their investigation into why and how the shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School took place. U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson says investigators have been pouring over hundreds of pages left behind that describe the shooters plan, mental state and hatred for “almost every group imanageable.”
Meanwhile, DFL lawmakers are again calling for stricter gun control measures in the wake of the shooting when Robin Westman poured dozens of bullets into the church through windows. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says two measures could help stop these kinds of shootings.
