Voters decide Tuesday who will fill seat of slain former House Speaker Melissa Hortman

Voters are going to the polls Tuesday in Brooklyn Park. It's a special election to fill the seat of slain former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and determine the political control of the House.

Family members of children injured in the Annunciation Catholic Church and School shooting are urging lawmakers to pass new restrictions on firearms. Several testified before a Senate working group on gun violence prevention Monday. Lawmakers could consider the proposals, and others, in a special legislative session.

Students from Annunciation School in Minneapolis are back in class Tuesday after that mass shooting in which two children died and 21 other people, mostly children, were injured. Classes resumed for preschoolers last week. School leaders say they are returning students to classes in stages and they have an enhanced security presence around the school campus.

Five men were struck by gunfire near the intersection of Lake Street and I-35W on the south side of Minneapolis.

RISE Dispensaries, a medical cannabis company with eight locations in Minnesota, is selling recreational cannabis starting Tuesday. Their stores in Brooklyn Park, Eagan, Mankato, New Hope and Willmar are officially selling to adults. RISE is the first to secure a license to expand into recreational sales.
