Metro Blue Line light rail will be closed until October with buses replacing trains

Light rail riders in the Twin Cities will have to contend with major service changes for nearly two weeks starting Monday. Metro Transit says the entire length of the Blue Line will be closed, with buses replacing trains between downtown Minneapolis and the Mall of America. The closures will allow crews to replace track and other equipment along the rail lines as well as clean and repair stations. Closures are scheduled to run through Oct. 4.

Some colleges and universities around the state are reporting higher-than-expected freshman enrollment this year.

Early voting is underway in Minneapolis for mayor and all 13 members of the city council. Fourteen registered candidates are challenging incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey. Frey says he's helped move the city forward in areas like housing and crime during his time in office. Frey's leading opponents have argued that he has failed the city on issues like homelessness and police reform.

The Minnesota Lynx beat the Phoenix Mercury Sunday night in Game 1 of the WNBA semifinals, 82-69. They played without Lynx guard DiJonai Carrington, who is out for the season after spraining her left foot on Wednesday. The Lynx will keep their home court advantage in Game 2 on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Target Center.
