State allowed to move forward with its lawsuit against Fleet Farm for gun sales

A federal judge is allowing the state to move ahead with its lawsuit against Fleet Farm. Attorney General Keith Ellison alleges the retailer is negligent for selling guns that turned up at crime scenes, including a mass shooting. Ellison sued Fleet Farm in 2022 — a year after a gun battle between two men at the Truck Park bar in downtown St. Paul left a woman dead and 14 other people hurt.

The state alleges store employees negligently sold 24 guns to a man who they should have known was buying them for someone else. Fleet Farm says it's not responsible for harm to the public because the buyers could have obtained the guns elsewhere.

State health officials are urging Minnesotans to get vaccinated against measles as more cases of the highly contagious disease are confirmed in the state. The Minnesota Department of Health said it confirmed 10 new cases of measles in the Twin Cities metro area this week. All were tied to domestic or international travel. And all were among people who were not vaccinated.

Every year, a portion of Minnesota lottery proceeds goes to environmental preservation projects. This year, some of those funds were spent redesigning school campuses. Trust for Public Land this year redesigned five schoolyards across Minnesota into green spaces with native plants and trees. The goal is to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Summer-like temperatures are impacting the presence of seasonal allergens across the state. Ragweed pollen and weed pollen are typically present late July through September, when the first frost occurs. Experts predict allergens to last until mid-October this year.
