Three of the candidates running for mayor of St. Paul debated their visions for the city Tuesday during a candidate forum hosted by MPR News and the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
City leaders from across the state are calling on the Legislature to repeal a law that prohibits cities from enacting their own gun regulations. Mayors from Rochester, Hopkins, St. Paul and others say they are prevented by the law from enacting city ordinances that ban public possession of assault weapons and prohibit guns in public spaces.
A new report says Minnesota’s clean energy jobs grew more than two-times faster than the state’s total workforce last year. Clean Energy Economy Minnesota is an industry-led nonprofit. It estimates that nearly 64,000 Minnesotans work in renewable energy, electric vehicle manufacturing and energy efficiency. The industry is bracing for a slowdown after some federal tax credits for clean energy projects end at the end of the year.
The Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul is getting two new zebras. The pair are father and son. They are Hartmann's Mountain Zebras — a subspecies native to southwestern Africa. The zoo says they are typically taller and heavier than the Plains zebras most zoo visitors are familiar with.
