After a second round of ballot counting on Wednesday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey won a third term in office. Frey surpassed the needed 50-percent threshold of ranked choice votes to claim the win. His closest challenger, Sen. Omar Fateh, earned a little more than 44 percent of the vote.
In St. Paul, the capital city's new mayor will be state Rep. Kaohly Her. She ousted two-term incumbent Melvin Carter. Her says she will seek legislative support for St. Paul projects. Her term as mayor begins in January.
The St. Paul City Council is expected to vote next week on a measure to ban military-style rifles and guns without serial numbers.
Hundreds of Allina Health doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in the Twin Cities walked off the job Wednesday in a one-day strike. They want better benefits and higher staffing levels. Union members say Allina is moving too slowly towards a contract after more than a year and a half of bargaining.

Allina officials said in a statement that they're working to limit the strike's impact to patient care and working to reach a deal with the union. The next bargaining session is scheduled for next month.
