Mayor Frey asks on Twin Cities residents to shop at Latino and Somali-owned businesses

Democrat Shelley Buck won a three-way House primary election Tuesday in Woodbury. It all but paves the way to election next month because no other party fielded a candidate. In the other House primary in St. Paul, voters chose Meg Luger-Nikolai, a labor lawyer, as the DFL nominee for January's special election. This represents the Minnesota House district that includes Summit Avenue and riverfront neighborhoods.

Classes will resume Wednesday at more than a dozen schools in the southern Twin Cities metro area after they were canceled or dismissed early Tuesday following threats made on social media. The closures affected all 13 schools in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage district, as well as high schools in the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan district.

According to data collected by the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association, tribal casinos employed more than 10,000 people statewide, 30 percent of whom are Native American. Full-time and part-time workers received more that $500 million in earnings and benefits and paid $110 million in payroll taxes. Combined, tribal casinos would rank as the 17th largest employer in the state, according to the study.
