Six more people are facing federal charges in connection with a scheme to rip off Minnesota Medicaid programs. Five of them allegedly stole around $5.5 million from the Housing Stabilization Services Program — which Gov. Tim Walz shut down this year because of fraud. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson says 14 programs deemed high risk for theft paid out around $18 billion, but investigators are still trying to determine how much of that was fraudulent.
The owner of a St. Cloud clinic is also charged with stealing $6 million from a program meant to help children with autism.
Friday is expected to be the single busiest travel day ahead of the Christmas holiday at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Nearly 43,000 people are expected to clear security checkpoints today. About 445 flights are scheduled to depart from MSP today. Travelers are encouraged to arrive early, prebook parking or take public transit.
Minnesotans can still sign up for health insurance through MNsure. The final deadline for enrolling is Jan. 15 for coverage that will begin on Feb. 1.
