‘Unhealthy’ air quality expected in eastern Minnesota through Monday afternoon due to wildfire smoke

If you think it's been an exceptionally hot stretch across the Twin Cities, you're absolutely right.

The numbers back it up. With today's high reaching 90 degrees at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), the Twin Cities have now recorded nine consecutive days with temperatures of 90 degrees or higher. That ties for the third-longest streak of consecutive 90-degree days in Minneapolis recorded weather history and puts July 2026 among the city's most significant heat waves.

The streak isn't over just yet. If the Twin Cities reaches 90 degrees again Monday, July 2026 would stand alone in third place with 10 consecutive 90-degree days. The two longest streaks are expected to remain untouched: 14 consecutive days in 1936 and 11 consecutive days in 1948.

By Tuesday, temperatures are expected to return to near or even slightly below normal for late July, accompanied by noticeably lower humidity. After more than a week of relentless heat, the change will be a welcome one across Minnesota.
