The state has released the first results of a 

 looking into the experiences and needs of LGBTQ+ Minnesotans.  

More than 7,000 people responded to a community needs survey by the Council on LGBTQIA2S+ Minnesotans.  

State embarks on ‘most comprehensive’ survey of LGBTQ+ Minnesotans in 30 years

“What stood out to me was how consistently we saw challenges across so many different parts of people’s lives,” said Emma Watts, executive director of the Council.

This included high levels of mental health concerns, high rates of discrimination, barriers within the healthcare system, and concerns over housing and economic security, according to Watts.

On the other hand, Watts said the responses also showed “encouraging findings” when it comes to home and community support.

Watts shared more about the findings with Minnesota Now host Nina Moini.
