Nearly all statewide races are on the ballot Tuesday in Minnesota

Here’s a quick look at news across the state this Tuesday morning.

Nearly all statewide races are on the midterm ballot in Minnesota

Starting at the top of the ticket, voters will see races for U.S. Senate, governor and other constitutional offices: attorney general, auditor and secretary of state. All eight congressional seats are on the ballot, along with every legislative seat — 134 in the state House and 67 in the state Senate — and judicial races.

Voters will see many local races depending on where they live, from mayor to county sheriff to city council to school board. There’s also a constitutional amendment on the ballot that would increase the annual payout to school districts from the Permanent School Fund.

Polls are open until 8 p.m., and anyone in line at that time can still vote.

That includes open governors’ seats in Wisconsin and Iowa. South Dakotans also are voting for governor Tuesday. U.S. Senate seats are up for election in South Dakota and Iowa. The Iowa race is an open seat.

And for U.S. House — there are races for open seats in South Dakota and northern Wisconsin, and two open seats in northern Iowa. There’s also a closely watched race in western Wisconsin’s 3rd District between Republican incumbent Derrick Van Orden and Democratic challenger Rebecca Cooke.

U.S. House Democrats to send election observers to two counties

In addition to Department of Justice election monitors who will be at polling places in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties, the Democrat-led U.S. House Minority caucus is sending one election observer to Hennepin County and one to Olmsted County.

Olmsted County is part of Republican U.S. Rep. Brad Finstad’s district, one of the most competitive congressional races in the country. U.S. House Republicans have so far declined to send observers.
