
Meet Sam Stroozas
Sam Stroozas is a digital producer for MPR News where she writes about gender, sexual health and life in Minnesota. She also leads coverage on the MPR News Instagram account.
Before joining MPR News, Sam freelanced in Chicago for multiple publications, including Newsweek, Ms. Magazine, the Chicago Reader and In These Times. She worked at the Evanston RoundTable, a nonprofit newsroom in Illinois, as a digital engagement reporter and as a reporting fellow at Rebellious Magazine.
Sam’s work has received several awards and distinctions, including multiple Page One Awards from the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association, an Eric Sevareid Award from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and a Public Media Journalists Association award.
Sam graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a double major in English and media studies and a minor in women, gender and sexuality studies. She then went to Northwestern University in Chicago for her master’s in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism, where she specialized in social justice and investigative reporting. She is originally from western Wisconsin.
In her free time, Sam enjoys reading, practicing yoga, spending time with her cat and exploring different parts of Minnesota.
