The Minnesota Vixen won their first Women’s Football Alliance championship Saturday, beating the Pittsburgh Passion 42-14.
Minnesota’s defense forced five turnovers, including four interceptions, in the game at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Quarterback Erin Kelly was named the game’s MVP.
The Vixen were 5-1 in the regular season, only losing to their rivals, the St. Louis Slam. They beat the Slam in the playoffs along with the reigning champion Salt Lake Wildcats in the American Conference Championship on a last-second field goal.
The Vixen are the longest operating women’s tackle football team in the country and were founded in 1999 as a barnstorming team. They joined the Women’s Football Alliance in 2017, and have made several appearances in the championship game.
