At least four businesses were set on fire and dozens were damaged Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
The unrest erupted after what authorities describe as misinformation about the suicide of a homicide suspect in downtown Minneapolis. The city's curfew will run from 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday. Rapper Kanye West has qualified to appear on Minnesota's presidential ballot this November as an independent candidate, the state Secretary of State’s office said Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the office said that official signature totals were not immediately available because election workers were in the process of taking personal information off the documents. West turned in the signatures a week ago, 2,000 of which required verification to get on the ballot

Minnesota’s COVID-19 case numbers continued their climb Monday, as the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents approved a proposal to delay in-person classes for students on some of its campuses.
According to the plan, nearly all undergraduate classes on three of the university’s campuses — in the Twin Cities, Rochester and Duluth — will now begin online for at least the first two weeks of school this fall. Move-in for students who live in on-campus housing at those three locations will also be delayed by two weeks.

The fall semester might begin even more differently than expected this year for undergraduates on several University of Minnesota campuses.
University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel announced Friday that she’s proposing that three of the U’s campuses — in the Twin Cities, Rochester and Duluth — begin classes online for at least the first two weeks of school this fall.
The university's Board of Regents is expected to take up Gabel's proposal in a special meeting Monday morning.
