For what may be the last time, Mike Hatch leads the digest. He tells the Star Tribune that he didn't mean to bring Judi Dutcher when he explained his loss in an e-mail. But he insists he did poorly in E-85 strongholds. WCCO-TV's Pat Kessler reality checks Dutcher's E-85 gaffe and whether it had an impact on the race.
Let's move on to the guy who actually won the governor's seat. Tim Pawlenty's name keeps being mentioned as a possible running mate to John McCain.
But Star Tribune Columnist Katherine Kersten says Pawlenty isn't conservative. In fact she rips him for saying the state should move to "universal health care coverage." She then does something to make sure the Pawlenty Administration knows she's mad. She mentions him in the same sentence as Hillary Clinton. Now, where I grew up, you got into fist a cuffs when someone said something bad about your momma. I think mentioning Hillary in the same sentence with Pawlenty goes that far for Republicans. By the way, Pawlenty probably loves that the most conservative columnist in the Twin Cities is bashing him. Can anyway say "Movin' to the middle."

More than once, Klobuchar recalled, Ohio Sen.-elect Sherrod Brown told her "if I have to hear that Zamboni line one more time, I'll walk out the door." That was the line where she contrasted Kennedy's parade of GOP celebrities with her own leading lights - the Gear Daddies band of Austin, Minn., famous for a song called I Want to Drive the Zamboni.
I'm sure there are plenty in the press corps and that nice young GOP tracker who would second that statement.
