(AP) - A 21-year-old man was sentenced Monday to life without parole for the shooting death of an innocent bystander in a downtown Minneapolis entertainment complex last spring.
Derick D. Holliday hung his head and rubbed his face as he was sentenced in the death of Alan Reitter, a suburban Minnetonka man who was downtown with friends and his fiancee the night he was shot.
Police said Holliday was targeting another man whom he had fought with earlier that night inside a nearby movie theater.
The death of Reitter, 31, came two weeks after a 25-year-old South Carolinian was shot to death during a robbery in the city's Uptown entertainment area, adding to public concern about the city's safety. City and state leaders have since worked to find money for an increased police presence on the streets.
