Accepting what nature serves up

Shortly before dusk last evening I was casually patrolling the neighborhood as another nice weekend was about to come to an end. A few couples were working in tandem to mow the yard and rake the leaves. I paused to converse about the change in the weather that was set to arrive overnight.

Most folks took advantage of the extended above normal autumn temperatures to make those final preparations for the upcoming winter. There will still be the last minute rush to buy window washer fluid, ice scrapers and snow shovels. But, congratulations to those, who can look outside at the wind whipped flurries and feel good that they took care of business when nature served up a pretty decent weekend in November.

At mid day, despite the reported temperature of 41 degrees in St. Paul, the first flurries of the season were spied in and about the Twin Cities. The air aloft is cold enough to manufacture snow. Heavier snow showers were concentrated in the Arrowhead and down wind of Lake Superior in Upper Michigan. Check out the forecast for snow the next twenty-four hours.

The menu from Mother Nature will likely feature more cold and snow, as the normal high for Minneapolis/St. Paul drops from 46 today to 32 by the end of November.
