Mark Olson, a Republican state house member who was shunned by his party, won the endorsement for a Minnesota Senate seat. House Republcians kicked Olson out of their caucus last summer after he was convicted of domestic assault. He is hoping to replace GOP Sen. Betsy Wergin, who is retiring to take a job with the Public Utilities Commission.
