Strong winds

When traveling back from Wisconsin yesterday, I thought I spied my lawn furniture blowing passed River Falls. Winds gusted from the west northwest at over 50 miles per hour at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Observed peak wind gusts on Sunday

Winds will be more tolerable, yet gusty today, as the pressure gradient relaxes as the low over the upper Great Lakes moves east and the center of high presurre advances across the upper Midwest.

The first snow flakes of the season whipped across the Twin Cities on Sunday. Last year the first trace of snow in the metro was on November 5th, with the first measurable snowfall on November 21st.

Fargo measured 1.4 inches of snow yesterday, which is a record daily snowfall for October 26th. The previous record was 1.2 inches set in 1925.

Enjoy the moderation beginning Tuesday afternoon.
