The morning service is traditionally attended by members of the Supreme Court, Congress and the diplomatic corps.

The event will celebrate the inauguration with prayer, readings, and music. For the first time, a woman -- Rev. Sharon Watkins -- will deliver the sermon at this event.

The service is not open to the public, but Minnesotan Miguel Diaz was invited to attend. Diaz is a theology professor at the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University. He served on Obama's Catholic advisory council during the campaign.

Diaz spoke with Morning Edition host Cathy Wurzer.
