Local guitarist Tim Sparks has been all over the musical globe in the past few decades since moving to Minnesota. He was one of the founding members of the jazz trio Rio Nido. He's also recorded albums of European and Mediterranean folk music as well as classical music.

But now, he's finally gotten back to the style he meant to record several years ago - 20th Century American roots music. His latest CD is called "Sidewalk Blues." Sparks dives into ragtime, jazz, gospel and blues songs with his own in-depth arrangements.

Tim Sparks stopped in the studio to record a segment of MPR's Radio Heartland program with Dale Connelly.

Songs performed: "Mississippi Blues" and "I'll Fly Away"
