Drivers in the Twin Cities will encounter another weekend of road closures and traffic congestion around the south metro area.
All southbound lanes of Interstate 35W between Interstate 494 and Highway 13 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, July 13, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists will be directed east on I-494 to Highway 77, south to Highway 13, and south to I-35W.
Crews will be working on bridge repairs between Bloomington and Burnsville as well as pavement work along I-35W.
The work is part of the ongoing reconstruction of I-35W from Burnsville to downtown Minneapolis.
The project is funded by the Urban Partnership Agreement and will improve traffic flow by reducing congestion on I-35W, Cedar Avenue and in downtown Minneapolis.
The UPA is funded by $133.3 million in federal funds and $50.2 million in matching state funds, according to the Department of Transportation.
