President Obama made a statement about his health care priorities in his pick of Dr. Regina Benjamin, a rural family doctor from Alabama, for surgeon general.

The President praised her accomplishments in founding and running a clinic with many poor and uninsured patients. He said Dr. Benjamin "represents what's best about health care in America - doctors and nurses who give and care and sacrifice for the sake of their patients." The Senate must confirm the President's pick.

Dr. Jon Hallberg, regular medical analyst for All Things Considered, had more to say on the nomination of Dr. Regina Benjamin. Jon himself is in family medicine at the University of Minnesota.
