Sheriff identifies woman struck by semi on I-35

Officials have identified the woman who was struck and killed along Interstate 35 near the Carlton-St. Louis county line Wednesday afternoon.

Cynthia Olson, 53, died after a semi-trailer truck hit her while she stood outside her car south of the County Road 61 exit, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The accident happened shortly after noon on Wednesday. It was immediately unclear what she was doing standing outside her car.

Officials said the driver of the truck, 31-year-old James Gregory, of Duluth, suffered no injuries.

The Carlton County Sheriff's Office, the Proctor Police Department and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
