Leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will decide this week, whether member churches should be allowed to hire ministers in committed same-sex relationships as clergy.

And, the Assembly of the nation's largest Lutheran denomination voted yesterday on a related matter.

Delegates approved the ELCA's social statement on human sexuality, which says that the church is open enough to allow different perspectives on the potentially polarizing issue.

To talk about the discussion going on in Minneapolis this week Tom Crann talked to John Brooks. He works for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, as the news director for the ELCA's communication services.
